Christmas is over and what a Christmas it was!! Glitz and glitter everywhere. Every house and every tree shimmering in beautiful colorful lights. Holiday songs playing on radio and television. Everybody shopping for gifts and every store outdoing itself in throwing holiday deals.
Christmas was in the air. Everywhere. 🙂
Except, on social networking platforms, where war of word is going on about the showing off of Christmas Gifts.
Big Question is – If we should post the picture of Gifts that we have given to our kids for Christmas?
Some argue, that this is a way of showing off of how much you can afford? How much you can spend on your gifts? How expensive your gifts are and how many of them you have bought?
Would it be called bragging, if you are posting a picture of your Kid with 10 gifts under Christmas tree for him?
Every parent wants to give their child the very best of the world, but not every parent can afford a new Tablet/Phone, or a brand new Video Game. Does that mean, that they love their kids any less? Or, should their kids feel less blessed this Christmas?
But, there is also another viewpoint. The perspective that it is a festive season, and holidays are for pampering your kids and loved ones with toys and gifts of expensive nature. If not now then when? You would love to have your kid to have that brand new video game this Christmas, if this is what he was longing for. So what’s wrong with that? If you want to post a picture of your elated kid with his Gifts, then what is wrong with kid? Everyone wants to see a Happy Child.
Has Showing Off of Gifts, Taken Over The Spirit Of Christmas?
As they say, to each his own. In this case too, it depends on what are you trying to convey to the world and to your kid too. Ultimately, Christmas is the festival celebrating birth of Jesus, who has given everything for the less fortunate ones.
It is a festival of giving. Let us teach our kids importanceof giving, along with rejoicing the joys of receiving.
Has Showing Off of Gifts, Taken Over The Spirit Of Christmas?
On that note Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !!!
But, are you just expecting it to be a hit? Or, you were expecting fireworks from it?
Don’t know about you, but I was expecting Fireworks and I was let down a bit. Why? I will soon delve into that, but lets first go through the basics of this movie – PK.
PK is Indian Film Directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra along with Siddharth Roy Kapur and Hirani himself. This movie stars Aamir Khan in the lead role of PK; while Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput, Boman Irani and Saurabh Shuklaplays important part in this movie. Sanjay Dutt has also done a crucial cameo in this movie, but is completely wasted in this movie.
PK – Is it a Waste of Time?
PK, played by Aamir Khan, is an alien who got stranded on Earth when someone stole his remote control device; his only way to call back his spaceship. PK then embarks on a hilarious journey of finding his remote. He goes to Police and every common man he can encounter, to get clues for finding remote, but only answer that he got was, “Only God can help you find it”.
Thus he decides to first find God and then he will take God’s help to find remote. Now,the big question is, Where is God? He went from Temples to Churches, from Mosques to Gurudwara, but to no avail. Until one day he accidentally bumps into a Baba’s aashram where he saw his remote projected as Shiva’s Manka/bead from Himalayas. Comes Anushka, who then plan a plot to help PK get his remote back from Baba, and in doing so they expose Baba and his claim of talking with God.
What works for the movie?
This movie is a full on entertainer. It will make you laugh, cry, question and will evoke so many emotions inside you. Hirani has chosen an apt way to use an alien to see our world from the perspective of an outsider. It gives an objectifying view of the whole spiritual corruption that is happening around us.
Aamir Khan is always flawless. He can be a student, or a magician or he could be an alien. whatever role you will give him; he will be that character to the hilt. Anushka and Sushant are the also in their best form. Anushka has looked confident in front of Aamir. Movie on a whole is good and watchable.
What does not work for the Movie?
One of the drawbacks of this movie is that it is following in the footsteps of ‘3 Idiots‘, and Munnabhai genre. It’s just not upto that standard. Reasons are many –
To start with, first half of the movie is tight and edited well. It is right on point in showing an objective picture of our religious differences and dogma attached to them. Comes second half and film loses its objectivity to an illogical emotional drama.
This movie sets a pace where at the end you are waiting for that big climax; where our protagonist PK will silent the Godman and his followers, once and for all, by his quick wit and logic. But alas, that climax was never there. Instead there was all this ‘Rona-Dhona’, India-Pakistan, Love Story, Baap Beti emotional drama and all.
That last scene could have made a lot of difference. It could have taken this film to a height where Hirani’s other films are, atleast. They could have written down an extraordinary debate where Godman could have shown to acknowledge his defeat.
Most absurd is the love story shown between Anushka and Sushant. Who in his right mind break up like that? You are left at the altar and you will not even ask why?? Infact, they were kind of shown living in together and the very next day they just left the country without even seeing each other. If I would have to leave a country, it would take me a week just to pack my stuff.
Some Hindu religious organizations/groups are protesting against this movie as it show Hinduism in bad light. To be fair, it does show each religion that way; but their main villain/protagonist being a Hindu Godman (only), does raises eyebrow. Hirani and Aamir for once could have taken a bold step and shown representative of every religious leader in the final debate. But again, the end is not at all what I would expect from this combo.
PK – Is it a Waste of Time?
One more fact that is not highlighted about the movie is, that the character of PK was loosely based on ‘Abraham Kovoor‘, who was responsible for running a campaign against so called Frauds and Godman. His most popular target was ‘Sathya Sai Baba‘. Thus if you translate it into a film, you can relate to the Saurabh Shukla character more.
PK – Is it a Waste of Time?
My suggestion to those who are protesting against this movie – Do not protest on social platform. You are only promoting this movie by doing so. Remember when it comes to films, every publicity is a good publicity.
Suggestion to viewers – Go watch the movie but do not expect sparks flying the way they it happened in ‘ 3 Idiots‘.
PS. I still couldn’t understand why Anushka Sharma have gone through duck lips for this movie. It just doesn’t make any sense.
Scoop out mixture on cookie sheet and bake them for 15 minutes at 350.
It would be lightly brown when done.
Take them out and let them cool for 2 minutes before serving.
It is a good way to eat Oatmeal and Banana together. These cookies can be served with tea or coffee, or they can be eaten by themselves.
Banana Oatmeal Cookies
Easy, and quick to make, healthy to eat. 🙂
Enjoy!!!
P.S. My cooking is experimental. You will find many similar and different recipes, but the idea is to explore your food and do experiments with it. Enjoy Cooking Experiments and Experiences 🙂
You watch a movie, where everything is perfect; actors are at their best; songs are written by Gulzar; Music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy; Funny dialogues; but….. wait, what about story? Oh it has a good and hit story too, only it was a story from the past.
Kill Dil
If time travel would have been possible, I would have gone some 30 – 40years back in time and then I could have loved this movie. Seriously I would have adored it by than.
Did you remember those ‘No Vacancy‘ signs popping up on your cinema screen when hero goes out in search of job. If yes, then you can really understand my pain when I was cringing while watching this movie.
Kill Dil, is Indian Hindi Movie directed by Shaad Ali and produced by Aditya Chopra of Yash Raj Banner. Remember Shaad Ali, same person who gave us ‘Saathiyaa’ and ‘Bunty aur Bubly’. RIP his direction skills. Remember Aditya Chopra, person who gave us ‘DDLJ‘ and ‘Ishaqjaade’…. RIP his story picking skills. Just to remind yo that Saathiyaa and Bunty aur Bubly was also a joint venture of these two. I am crying now 😥
Why you should watch Kill Dil?
Kill Dil
Star Cast –Ranveer is holding this film on his shoulders. He is impeccable. His character is witty, unapologetic for the work he do, and still loving. With each passing film, Ranveer proves that he is not a regular star, but he has so much talent, only if he can get some meatier roles.
Parineet is good too, as always. But her character is not shaped well. One time she looks like a bar dancer another scene she tell us that she help rehabilatating prisoners. She is a modern girl, who falls in love with a gunda looking character without knowing exactly what he does for living. Which school did she go to??
Ali Zafar, I love your deep voice and your look too, just not in this film exactly. Again, a good actor wasted here, with nothing to do much. His character just don’t have any background, no depth and no growth. Poor Ali just looked like hero ka friend in this movie.
Ali Zafar and Govinda
Govinda. Nothing to say about him. Bad comeback. I loved your dance though, but this is not your movie.
Kill Dil
Songs – If you listen to Kill Dil songs, you will love them; but if you watch them in the movie, you may prefer taking your pee break. They are just story stopper in the movie. Worst thing is that Gulzar is associated with this movie. Lyrics are so soothing and awesome and they are beautifully enhanced by music too; but somehow it doesn’t fit in the movie.
Kill Dil
Why you would not like to watch this movie?
Story from the past – Govinda adopt two babies who were abandoned in a dumpster. Govinda is a Don, or Gunda; so these two baby boys also grow up to be goons. They are grown up Ranveer and Zafar obviously. One of them (Ranveer) fall in love; so he tries to come clean of his awful ways. Govinda didn’t liked this decision of him at all so, he plot to destroy Ranveer’s love life. That’s it. I have watched this type of movies a thousand times; so why should I watch this? Nothing new here.
Kill Dil
Patchy direction – You don’t feel a connection between characters or their story. It looks like movie is going in one direction and then suddenly director decides no lets take a left turn…. oops lets g right again. One time you are shooting someone in the next scene you are singing a song happily. One time you are dreading Govinda, in other scene you are romancing Parineeti without any concern of the world.
Kill Dil
Gulzar’s narrative voice makes me feel like I was about to watch a good critically acclaimed movie but somehow I sat in the wrong hall and instead watching a c-grade movie. I just wish that if so many good things/people won’t be attached to this movie, I could have hated it better.
