Valentine Is Like Halloween

Valentine Is Like Halloween. Don’t jump into conclusions, I don’t have any horrific experience with Valentines day, ever. This correlation of Valentine with Halloween is concluded by someone else, and she has a pretty good reason of coming to this statement.

When your four-year old daughter comes to you and asks an innocent question like, “Mamma, Do you know Valentines Day?”, what will be your first reaction?

My first thought was, how did she know about Valentine Day? Then, I thought, oh, who am I kidding, she goes to school, and kids today, they know almost everything, well almost, thank God. 😐

So, instead of just saying yes, and explaining to her what Valentines day is, like any good parent must have done, but not me; I promptly said – “No”.

No, I don’t know about Valentines Day.”
Don’t blame me, I just wanted to know, what she knows about it. Try this method, you will hear some very cute answers to life’s difficult problems.

So, I asked, “What is Valentine Day”?

Tisha, my daughter, – “You don’t know? Oh…. 😦 ”

Valentine is like Halloween”.

Now, this was a shocker.

Well, wait for it, she explained it to me too, once my curiosity asked her, “How”.

Tisha : “Valentine is like Halloween, Mamma. On Valentine, kids go to party, and they get candies, and they play with their friends, and everyone loves them, give them treats. Teacher will give us a party and we will play. Lots of candies, mamma!!” 😎
Mamma, I want to go to Valentines party… plzz….plz… plz…take me to valentines party.

I did get a pretty good laugh out of it. She is super excited about her party. Me and kids have made some pretty cool gifts, small hearts, for their class friends and teachers. All set for party.
Here is to an interesting Valentines day, which is just like a Halloween. 😛

Mouthwatering Monday – Baked Veggie Chips

Kids love Chips. If allowed they can live on just chips.

Are they tasty? Yes. Are they addictive? Yes.

Are they healthy? No.

So, I devised a new plan. Everytime my kids crave for chips I gave them home baked Veggie chips. They don’t like it as much they loved the ones from the market, but who cares? I am their Mother, and I will feed them what I think is right for them. Mommy Power 😛

  • You can use vegetables like Potato, Radish, Zucchini, Carrot or any other of your choice.
  • Salt as required.
  • Oil to spray.

Method

  • Preheat your Oven to 400 F.
  • Cut your vegetables in thin slices or in shape of your preference.
  • Wash them with water and then rinse thoroughly.
  • Sprinkle some salt and let them rest for 5-10 minutes.
  • Remove excess water, if any.
  • Spray baking Pan with some oil and lay your veggie chips on it.
  • Sprinkle little salt and try some herbs if you want, like I have used Thyme here.
  • Bake for around 40 minutes, or when veggies turn a little crispy.
  • Remember, some vegetable need more time in oven so just put them in different pans, if you can, and bake them till they are crisp.
  • Let them rest for 2 minutes, and then serve with a dip or chutney.

Simple and healthy recipe.

Mouthwatering Monday – Basic Chocolate Cake

Basic Chocolate Cake by Jyoti Singh
Basic Chocolate Cake

I have found this basic Chocolate Cake recipe which is bang on when it comes to right amount of softness in a cake. I made this cake for my daughter Tisha’s birthday. It was soft and tasty. Kids loved it along with all the guests.

I am not sharing recipe for frosting as I used vanilla buttercream frosting from market.

Here, it goes – a very simple and basic Chocolate Cake recipe.

Ingredients

Method

  • Preheat your Oven to 350 F.
  • In a large bowl, whisk all the dry ingredients – sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  • In another large bowl, mix whisk Egg with water, milk, oil and vanilla extract.
  • Combine both and mix them slowly, making it a smooth paste.
  • Grease your Cake Pan and pour this mixture on it.
  • Bake it for 27-30 minutes.
  • Every oven heat is different so check on your cake with a toothpick in the center of cake. Your cake is done when toothpick comes out clean.
  • When cake is done, let it rest on wire rack for a minute or two.
  • Let it cool completely before applying frosting.

You can decorate cake the way you like, or just forget about all the fuss, and eat it, the way it is. 🙂

Mouthwatering Monday – Banana Oatmeal Cookies

Cookies… cookies. I love cookies. My kids too. What we don’t love is Oatmeal.

Oatmeal is healthy and cookies are not. What to do??

Idea!!!

Lets make Oatmeal Cookies. Why not add Banana too and make Banana Oatmeal Cookies. 😎

Ingredients

  • 2 mashed Bananas
  • 1 cup Oats
  • 10-12 Raisins (optional)

Method

  • Mix Oatmeal with mashed bananas.
  • Add Raisins to the mixture and mix.
  • Scoop out mixture on cookie sheet and bake them for 15 minutes at 350.
  • It would be lightly brown when done.
  • Take them out and let them cool for 2 minutes before serving.

It is a good way to eat Oatmeal and Banana together. These cookies can be served with tea or coffee, or they can be eaten by themselves.
