Tuesday Talkies – Disney’s Khoobsurat

Khoobsurat - Disney Movie
Khoobsurat

Khoobsurat meaning beautiful in English, is an Indian movie directed by Shashank Ghosh and co produced by Disney. Film stars vivacious Sonam Kapoor and dashing Fawad Khan in lead roles along with Ratna Pathak Shah, Kirron kher and Aamir Raza Hussain.

Disney’s association with the movie is quite evident as the whole movie is based on a Prince and princess theme, love with no boundaries, and obviously dreams coming true. What else do you need in a Disney movie? Wait…. we were talking about a Bollywood movie, right?

So, we gotta have an over loud Mother (Maa), a strict hitlerish Raani (Queen), and a good for nothing husband of hers. Then to top it all we will need a loud mouth, over vivacious, remember Kareena in ‘Jab We Met‘ kind of female protagonist, who never think twice (not even once), before going out of bounds in interfering with other persons life and sharing her intrusive suggestions. Who else can portray this spirited girl, other than our loud mouth Sonam Kapoor?

Sonam and Fawad in Khoobsurat

She does look pretty convincing in her role, and damn she is beautiful. But my eyes were glued on someone else, whole time. ❤ Fawad Khan. He looks so…..so… 😉

Khoobsurat Fawad Khan

with that Princely charm, he sure steal the heart. Fawad Khan is a Pakistani actor, singer and model, who has debuted in Bollywood cinema with Khoobsurat. While watching the movie, I kept on having that feeling, like I have seen him before, but where. :O  Now, I remembered, I have seen him in one other film, ‘Khuda Kay Liye‘, I really liked him in that movie too.

Coming to the story, Sonam is a physiotherapist, working for Indian Cricket Team. She got assigned to a new project; to heal a paralyzed Raja in Rajasthan, India. She soon realize that it’s the strict rule imposed by the Rani (Ratna Pathak Shah), which are making the whole palace gloomy and unfit for Raja’s recovery. She took the matter into her clumsy hands and tried to stir up everything in the royal palace. Little did she know that her life is going to change too, as she falls for the workaholic Prince.

Khoobsurat

This movie is a loose remake/inspiration from the 1980’s movie of Rekha and Hrishikesh Mukherjee with the same name, Khoobsurat. That was a classic and one of my favorite movie, but this one also does not disappoint much. Although it is nowhere near, classic Khoobsurat; but it sure is watchable and if you are in your sweet sixteen, for sure you will love this one. It’s a cute romantic Disney movie, and will work in that genre.

What doesn’t work for me, is the fact that it’s too much cliche. Nothing new in the plot. We have seen so many movies like this one. All the actors are good, specially Ratna Pathak, who is marvelous. Kirorn Kher, is getting stereotyped in loud Punjabi Mothers role. Sonam and Fawad look good together and have acted well too. I must say though that Fawad don’t get many dialogues to deliver in front of our chatter box Sonam. But no complaints. 🙂

Overall, a nice movie, if you are just looking for some light hearted romantic flick.

Frolic Friday – When Deepika’s Cleavage became National Point of Interest

By now, I think everyone is aware of the controversy surrounding Deppika Padukone’s Cleavage (Gosh no matter what way you write about it… it looks dirty) 😛

When Deepika's Cleavage became National Point of InterestStill, for those who don’t know… poor innocent souls…. devoid of any drama in their lives…. here are the details.

You know how this Media is. It can make you and it can break you. It will respect you and it will also disgust you. Same happen with Depika Padukone, our very own, top Indian Film actress, when TOI Entertainment did this to her.

When Deepika's Cleavage became National Point of Interest

Yup! It’s a very awkward angle for a photograph and to top it all, writing something like “OMG: Deepika Padukone‘s Cleavage Show”, no that’s just too much gross. Obviously it disgusted our very own topmost Bollywood Actress, Deepika, who also replied in her tweets, “YES!I am a Woman.I have breasts AND a cleavage! You got a problem!!??” Well said, dear.

When Deepika's Cleavage became National Point of Interest
Deepika’s Reaction to TOI Tweet

Coming to TOI, yes, this is a new low, even for you. It was unnecessary and disgraceful. More importantly, she was on a public platform, promoting her film, and was wearing a damn Saaree, very gracefully. If you or your cameraman will go over the way, this time actually too much over her, to get a top angle so you can catch a glimpse of her cleavage…. Boss, you are pathetic. 😦

When Deepika's Cleavage became National Point of Interest

You made the matter worse, when you actually make it quite prominent for everybody to look out for her cleavage in these pics, by stating out loud terms like ‘OMG’ and ‘Cleavage Show’. When I saw those pics, I didn’t actually find it offending as there was nothing new, which we have not seen (yes, I am a pervert, and I saw that pic) 😐 Deepika has shown much more in her films and photo-shoots, but the moment you write it as ‘Cleavage Show’, you lost all the credibility. Note to TOI – even if you somehow got an awkward looking picture of a celebrity (Actually exposing some things, not to be exposed), please, do not use derogatory language too. Infact, do not post such pics. Grow Up!!!!

When Deepika's Cleavage became National Point of Interest

Coming to DeepikaBravo girl for speaking out and taking a stand. You did the right thing. We as woman should never take it lightly when it comes to maintaining respect and dignity. Not only woman, but actually all the species.

My only question to you – Do you remember these following words, “If I am a public figure and if someone has captured me then I feel I should have been a little careful.” ???

When Deepika's Cleavage became National Point of InterestWhat?? You got amnesia now?

Remember the time when media clicked pics of Katrina Kaif, in bikini, while she was holidaying on a private beach in Spain, with her boyfriend/close friend. Yes, the same time, you said, that celebrities are public figures and they should not cry out foul everytime someone click their pictures. 😛

When Deepika's Cleavage became National Point of Interest
Katrina and Deepika
  • Why clicking a picture of Katrina in bikini is okay, while yours in a Saaree is not?
  • Why clicking a picture of Katrina on a private trip is okay, while yours on a public platform not?
  • Why clicking a picture of Katrina when she is with her boyfriend in her own personal space is okay, while yours when you are promoting your film with media present in full gloom, is not?
  • Why clicking a picture of Katrina when she is not aware of any cameraman is okay, while yours when you are fully aware of that your pics are taken, is not?
When Deepika's Cleavage became National Point of Interest
Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif

Your’s cleavage is a cleavage, and Katrina has what, a Taj Mahal there, for everyone to take pic of? 😡

When Deepika's Cleavage became National Point of InterestMy stand, it was gross and disgraceful for the media to highlight a woman’s (not necessarily Deepika’s or any celebrity’s) cleavage, or any private part. It’s not good journalism, or an appropriate news.

When Deepika's Cleavage became National Point of InterestSome are saying, why we can drool over Shahrukh’s abs and not on Deepika’s cleavage? Simple dearie, Shahrukh’s abs is not his private body part (I am not saying it’s public though) 😛 try to focus your camera on his groin. Let’s see how much he appreciates that? Also, remember the hue and cry everyone made on Aamir Khan’s suggestive poster of his upcoming film PK. I loved it BTW. ❤ I love Aamir, clothes or no clothes. 😉

Wednesday Words – Dedicated to Idealistic Hypocrites

Idealistic Hypocrites

In my life I have got the privilege(yes, I would like it to call it privilege), to meet lots of and different variety of Hypocrites. It’s fun to meet such people, for the sheer point that they are the idiots who keep fueling humor into our dull lives. I love hypocrites; they give me something to talk and laugh about in social gatherings.

Idealistic Hypocrites

Don’t take it the wrong way, but I am a hypocrite too. Just to give you an example I may hate/dislike you but still wherever I will meet you, I will give you a warm welcome and say hi and all the formalities; inside I just want to walk away from you the first moment I can. If I really would have hated you, I won’t even talk to you…. plain. This much of hypocrisy is what we all do. Actually, we have to do, otherwise, we won’t e talking to a lot of people around us. Right??? 😉

Idealistic HypocritesWait, but this post is not dedicated to hypocrites. This one is dedicated to that breed of hypocrites who pretend to be idealistic. This one is not centered around one person, but as they say, “if the shoe fits, be my guest”. 😛

I have also mention, one of my hypocrisies here too…. lets see if you find out which one 😀

Idealistic Hypocrites
Do not Preach….

Recently, I have got the privilege of experiencing the world’s greatest hypocrite, who always pretended to be full of Indian values… sanskaar, sanskriti and all. Once, he/she (lets just use ‘he’ everywhere, just for the clarity. It could be a ‘she’ too, remember); so this person was like, “Americans/Non Indians have no moral and cultural values, they have no respect for their elders. They leave their parents and lead their own selfish lives….blah blah blah.” Do you know where this person is now??? LOL…. I know you are smart, must have guessed it all… he has shifted to a foreign land, leaving his parents alone to handle everything on their own. Where are your so called Indian Sanskaar now? Facepalm dear.

Idealistic Hypocrites

Same person, different idealism. “Oh schools in foreign are so bad, there is no proper education system. Whatever, Indian schools teach, it can never be learnt in foreign schools. Our(Indian) education system is best, rest of the world is mediocre….blah blah blah.” He now wants to give his son/daughter the best of education, and thus enrolled him/her into a school, which is….. wait for it….. not in India……… by far. Seriously man, grow up!!!

Idealistic HypocritesOne more idealistic hypocrite – “Oh, we are not into social networking, like facebook, twitter. They are all bullshit, and meant for dramatic people. You know those who like drama in their life and want to show off to the world.” Point taken. Wait, what did I see there…. you are now regularly posting on facebook… pics… daily status…. and all. World is really changing fast. Whoop! 🙄

Idealistic HypocritesWe are the perfect couple, so much in love.” Breaking news – your husband is having an affair, with your friend. What, you don’t believe me. Oh, I am wrong, I just wanted to help you. But you are not hypocrite, your husband, who is so much into PDA, and your so called friends, who laugh behind your back; they are hypocrite. BTW, everybody knows. Take care. 😦

Idealistic HypocritesAgain, same kind of situation, somewhat…. “We are ideal couple on facebook. We will post our mushy mushy pictures daily, and will bombard your timeline with it.” Did I hear it right… you are going through a rough patch and asking for divorce. Take care buddy and just go slow with your social love updates.

Idealistic HypocritesI love my kids. They are the cutest. Infact they are the world’s most beautiful kids. They are my best friends, and I will tell you about them, day in and day out. I will post their numerous pics and if I will talk to you, I will only talk about my kids……” wait, I have kids too, and they are as beautiful as yours, if not more. Why this competition? Hypocrisy, because you think, only your kids are beautiful. (well, I guess we can not call it hypocrisy, it’s called motherhood) 😐

Idealistic Hypocrites

I am so good with people. I have done only good deeds. I have never hurt anyone in my life. Why does everyone hates me? …..” you don’t know why? Ask me. Because you are so full of s&%t. Seriously, grow up. First be a good person, don’t show, that you are good, be one. You have always pretended that you are good. In reality, you always talk negative of others. You enjoy, if something bad happen to people around you. That’s not done.

Idealistic Hypocrites

“I am so naive and sweet. I speak like a doll. I am so polite. I am like idle bahu, or shall I say, bholi bhaali ladki, sweet and simple….. ” no dear, you are not. I have heard you so many times screeching at the top of your lungs. You are only polite when you are talking on phone. In reality, you have a totally different accent/voice/mannerism whatever you may call it. But you are a different person when you are on phone. Please don’t talk to me like this. I feel like I am talking to a dumb barbie doll, who only says haanji (yes and no) everytime.

Idealistic HypocritesI wanted to write so much more…. but control. Control yourself. I am sounding more and more like I am bitching about people. I am a hypocrite too. I am writing about all the things, which I do not want to see in people, but still I am enjoying writing about it. I am like biggest of all. I am a Hypocrite and I am a proud one, because I accept, what I am, publicly. Full-stop now.

Adios!!!

Tuesday Talkies – Ankhon Dekhi

Aankhon Dekhi by Rajat Kapoor
Ankhon Dekhi by Rajat Kapoor

There are rare breed of movies, which can make you laugh, cry and think, at the same time. Ankhon Dekhi is one such marvelous movie by Rajat Kapoor. BTW I am a fan of Rajat Kapoor’s work, be it acting screenplay writing or Directing. I love his real life portrayal of characters.

Aankhon Dekhi by Rajat Kapoor
Rajat Kapoor

Ankhon Dekhi is a hindi film, written and directed by Rajat Kapoor. Film stars Sanjay Mishra and Rajat Kapoor in lead roles along with Seema Pahwa of Humlog fame. Ankhon Dekhi, as it’s name suggests is based on a belief to believe only what your eyes can see.

Sanjay Mishra is head of the family, who lives in a joint family along with her younger brother Rajat Kapoor’s family. Both the families are living happily (sort of), managing their lower middle class problems and shortcomings by each passing day, until they came to know that the daughter of the family has fallen in love with a boy of ill reputation. Rita, who is daughter of Sanjay Mishra, loves Ajju, who as per everyone in the neighborhood, is a flirt and not a good fellow. Needless to say, family opposes this union and locks Rita in her room. While, dear chacha Rajat Kapoor decides to literally take matter into his own hands, and went to Ajju’s place to thrash him a little.

When they meet a whimpering Ajju, standing in the corner of his room with fear running down his spine, they realize that Ajju is not that bad as they have heard about him, instead he is a sweet fellow, who loves their daughter dearly, and is serious about marrying her. Sanjay, the father, almost realize that he was about to ruin the future of his beloved daughter based on a hearsay. He soon take a pledge to believe only what he sees with his eyes.

Easy said than done. He loos his job, as he can not convince his client a place is good or bad for vacationing, if he himself has not seen it. Pretty convincing…. right?

Ankhon Dekhi by Rajat Kapoor
A still from Ankhon Dekhi

He is ridiculed and mocked by everyone, till everyone started seeing the sense in his belief. He soon is stormed with daily visitors from the whole neighborhood who wants to debate with him, and just pick his mind actually.

Ankhon Dekhi by Rajat Kapoor

He once went to a zoo to see in actual if a Tiger roars or just meow…. how could he believe a tiger roars, if he hasn’t seen it with his own eyes? Point!!!

Ankhon Dekhi by Rajat Kapoor
Still from Ankhon Dekhi

I love the whole idea, and treatment of the film. Most beautiful thing about this film is that it liven up that old Delhi and lower middle class culture, those family values and heart breaks when families grow apart of each other. You will start seeing that ache that pain through these characters eyes. The feeling of losing your loved ones to selfish independence.

Ankhon Dekhi by Rajat Kapoor
Ankhon Dekhi by Rajat Kapoor

Each character is justified, so apt that they don’t even look characters anymore; they are the story. One thing that I wish could have been better with the movie is a tight editing. Sometimes, movie seems to go off track, or just look loose to you. Every scene has a meaning to it, but sometimes the flow from one to another is missing. Maybe, you need to have two part of this movie to fully capture the true essence of it. I wish!!!

Ankhon Dekhi by Rajat Kapoor

End will leave you devastated, but it was so beautiful, like setting someone free. Free like a bird. Would love to see what comes next from Rajat Kapoor’s nest….
